Chimney Services

There are different factors that cause normal wear and tear on your chimney.  The quality of your chimney construction can lengthen it's life.  If you have cracked or damaged brick, mortar, concrete, or flue tiles, this could lead to water seepage.  This water damage can cause major roof leaks and worsening deterioration of the chimney.   The more damage your flue tiles and liner have from water damage and condensation build up, can put you are at a very high risk of carbon monoxide gases getting trapped in the chimney and back flowing back into the house. Also, the deterioration of these flue tiles is a high risk of a house or chimney fire. If you are not sure if your chimney is in safe working condition, please do not hesitate to have us come out to inspect your chimney and offer recommendations for FREE.

Cleaning and Inspecting

We charge $325 per fireplace/unit to be cleaned and this includes a basic safety inspection. Inspections without cleanings are $250 per unit.

Tuckpointing/Rebuild

We only recommend tuckpointing  when there are minor cracks in the mortar joints.  These mortar joints are ground back and filled in with new mortar.

A Chimney rebuild is recommended when there is a significant amount of cracks in the mortar joints and when you see faces of the brick popping off or cracks through a brick.

If the cracks remain un-repaired, this will allow water to continue to enter the chimney and wear down the remainder of the chimney as well as the liner system in place.  With breakdown of the liner, this can cause serious health risks and a potential house fire.

Stainless Steel Liner

Stainless steel liners are used to get the harmful gases from a fireplace or appliances, out of the house.  Without a liner in proper condition, the gases can get trapped in the chimney and also back flow back into the house and start a house fire and lead to carbon monoxide detection.  Liners also help slow the progression of wear down on the brick and mortar.

Concrete Crown

Concrete crowns/caps are there to prevent moisture from getting into the chimney.  They are also used to prevent animals from entering the chimney.  If you have a crack in the crown/cap, water will leak in and deteriorate the brick, mortar, liner, and flue tiles.

In the picture we have our mason tearing down a chimney for a rebuild, but showing how the concrete cap is taken off.

Chase Cover

Chase covers are used to help shed water off the top of a chimney.  Chase covers are used on wood framed chimneys.  If the cover is rusted, this is an indication of standing water, and there is a good chance it needs replacement.  We do not install galvanized covers, and all of our covers are stainless steel.

B Vent

B-vents are a secondary option to replace a chimney above the roofline that houses gas or oil burning appliances.  They are intended to remove gases from the home and vent out of the roof.  They can be installed for wood fireplaces, gas fireplaces, boilers, water heaters, and furnaces.  If your utilities use a chimney, and your chimney is in bad condition, a b-vent will most likely be a cheaper alternative, rather than rebuilding.  If you are interested in learning more about B-vent systems, contact us today!

Rain Caps and Flue Tiles

Rain caps- the rain caps are the fixtures on top of the flue tiles.  The metal rain cap is just another way to help prevent moisture from entering the chimney.  It is also protection from animals entering the chimney.

Flue tiles-are clay liners that help protect the brick and mortar from breakdown related to the smoke and gases that come off of a burning fire, water heater, or furnace.  Brick and mortar will break down much faster if there were no flue tiles.  Properly working flue tiles and liner help prevent dangerous house fires and carbon monoxide in the home.

Flashing

Flashing is at the base of a chimney.  It helps prevent water getting into the roof between the roof and the chimney.
